PIERCING THE SILENCE* is a fundraising initiative in the form of a compilation of music from predominantly South African musicians in solidarity with Palestine, Congo and Sudan. Proceeds will be directed to organisations assisting in humanitarian aid in these countries.

Since October 7th, we’ve bore witness to a brutal and consistent decimation of men, women and children living in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. Within the borders of our continent we’ve seen the denial of citizenry rule and a continuation of military repression in Sudan, along with the slave-like labouring in the Congo for minerals, especially Cobalt, a mineral found in the smartphones we’ve been watching these atrocities from.

The Israeli occupation of Palestinian land has been taking place for the past 75 years, functioning as an Apartheid state that has dehumanised the Palestinian people, denying them of the most basic human rights. The Israeli government has been backed by the same Western Imperial forces that have pillaged Africa and continue to do so in Congo, as well as create the colonial structures that have left populations, like Sudan, riddled with conflict and suffering.

We’ve watched genocides on our screens but this has been alongside the propaganda that claims these atrocities are of our own doing. Protests, boycotts and social activism have been a core part of the global solidarity of these oppressed peoples and they must continue, as we force those in power to listen to the voice of the majority and free our brothers and sisters of the Global South.
